MAHFUJA BEGUM, a member of Kasimnagor Karmozibi Mohila Samiti of DISA Microfinance Program. Her husband was a Farmer and their earning wasn’t sufficient for their six members’ family. Mahfuja has one son and three daughters. They were passing each day of their life in extremely poor situation. Whatever, Mahfuja also wish to help her husband to manage the daily expenditure by earning some additional income.
In this situation, DISA’s Credit Officer Md. Billal Hosain came to her and after hearing her story he suggested her to become member of Kasimnagor Karmozibi Mohila Samiti’s activities. As per the advice of Mr. Billal, she joined the Group in 3rd May 2013 with the mission to alleviate poverty. Initially she was involved with DISA’s savings & weekly subject-wise (Social Development) activities. Later on, Mahfuja applied to get loan for individual cow-rearing project and DISA approved TK 20,000 against her request. By the loan amount & from the personal savings, Mahfuja bought a cow cost taka 30,000. She, herself along with her other family members start to rear it with highest attention. After few months that’s become a milky cow & started to give 8-9 litters milk per day. They inspired and started more carefully to rear the cow.
With the close attention, soon they got three milky cows which gave 12-14 litters’ milk per day. Selling the milk, she earns 650-750 taka per day. What’s become their additional income per day & what was helping them to get out from the poverty. Besides these earnings it’s fulfils our family nutrition too.
Mahfuja also attended the IGA training on Cow rearing arranged by DISA and after that she planned to expand the cow rearing project with the help of DISA and her own savings. Again, DISA approved another loan of taka 50,000 to purchased four additional cows. Presently Mahfuja have eleven cows and she earns taka 850-1000 per day. Now-a-days she is self-dependent. Mahfuja is now leading a happy and secured life with the family members.
